As we quickly approach the new year, I thought it prudent to sit down with my esteemed colleague (as well as cyclist, oenophile, Arsenal fan and Kraftwerk fan) Lu Zurawski, who’s been at the forefront of some major industry initiatives that will ripple into 2017 and beyond.

2017’s Payment Buzzwords in October…and Other Insanity

    Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Is  it just me or are things a little insane right now? From clowns wreaking havoc across the country to category 4 hurricanes also wreaking havoc (later and later into the year) to a certain presidential election (Sunday’s debate was, how you say, actually, it’s difficult for me to put into words) to now…Christmas decorations in October! And don’t forget the pop-up Halloween stores that arrived in August…August! So let the Rantings begin.

The Magical Mystery API Is Waiting to Take You Away…Waiting to Take You Away

There’s nothing like a good mashup of a Beatles song and technology, right? We all know the Beatles, but do we all know APIs? To butcher another Beatles song, ‘All you need are APIs, APIs are all you need.’ At least that’s what it seems like, especially in today’s vast finance industry. Before we quote any more songs, we should first define what an API is. According to our friends at Webopedia, Application Program Interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. An API specifies how software components should interact and APIs are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components.

The 2016 Rio Games are in full swing—with great story lines and unbelievable performances by incredible athletes, all being watched and admired by a million additional tourists in town (not to mention the many billions watching on TVs and computer screens).

Ahh, summer. I don’t have that summertime, summertime sadness nor do I like the Motel’s Suddenly Last Summer. But with summer now in full gear, I am one to wax poetic about spending those countless days of younger yore in Newport (and Middletown), RI, while my Rantings cohort has been a long-time (part-time) resident of Cape Cod. But we’re not here to debate which beaches are better (because there’s no debate that RI’s beaches are superior, though Welfleet’s Beachcomber is among my favorite all-time summer bars). We’re here to rant about more prudent topics…like bucket lists, not buckets full of delicious steamers; in this case, we’re referring to summer fintech bucket lists (or perhaps summer fintech wish lists).

  • Hasbro's Monopoly goes cashless

A Cashless Society is Coming to the US (and a monocle is not required)

    Friday, February 19, 2016

The “Cashless Society” is stuff of FinTech lore, a utopia that can be discussed, but one that many believe is impossible to reach. Impossible that is until we witnessed historically low interest rates globally, not to mention the negative rates in Sweden that have resulted in the paper stuff evaporating before our eyes. So with Hasbro’s major announcement that their top selling classic board game would be going “cashless,” the email deluge began, and thus, I present to you the next installment of Rantings avec Ranta.
