ACI Worldwide and Westpac New Zealand Deliver Real Time Payments Through DevOps Transformation

Westpac NZ turns to ACI’s UP Immediate Payments to transform IT culture and shift to DevOps model, processing payments from all channels to any clearing stream in real-time

Naples, FLA – October 24, 2017 – ACI Worldwide (NASDAQ: ACIW), a leading global provider of real-time electronic payment and banking solutions, today announced that Westpac New Zealand has transformed its retail banking technology and operations to deliver real-time payments via ACI’s UP Immediate Payments solution, driven by Agile methodology and DevOps practices.

UP Immediate Payments, leveraging ACI’s Universal Payments (UP) Framework, is Westpac NZ’s financial transaction hub, orchestrating payments across channels, networks and payment types. The solution supports any-to-any real-time payments and calls upon myriad services; from simple account balance inquiries, to fraud checks, payment authorization, and settlement – in real-time. ACI worked alongside Westpac NZ to facilitate the transformation from waterfall to responsive Agile and DevOps practices, enabling the bank to fully capitalize on these flexible and open payments services.

Westpac NZ, a long-time ACI customer, chose to work with the company to address the national, regional and global move toward faster payments schemes, moving payments from end-of-day batch settlement to real-time, instant clearing. ACI offered the bank not only a technical solution to meet impending regulatory changes, but also a supportive partnership to work through the implementation process. Adopting an Agile and DevOps approach enabled Westpac NZ to meet both the critical regulatory deadline set by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and transform the bank’s culture and operations to make changes at speed—delivering new products in days, rather than months.

While this is not totally new in the banking world, it is perhaps the first time that a bank has replaced a core banking system in this fashion. We saw the payoff of our investment in the technology almost immediately, as we redeployed twice on our go-live day without any impact on performance, while at the same time processing more than $1 billion in transactions.”
